Topic: Making Community Spaces More Accessible with Technology
Date: Tuesday, November 22, 2022 1pn to 3pm ET
Presenter: Dr. Juliëtte Sterkens
Hearing loops give hearing aids and cochlear implant users access to clear sound in places where poor acoustics, distance, or background noise can make it difficult to hear. Most hearing aid and CI users are unaware of hearing loops, yet once they experience a loop, they want to see loop technology used in many more public places. If this sounds familiar, but you don’t know where to start, this workshop is for you! Learn successful hearing loop advocacy tools that will get these easy to use listening systems installed in your community.
As part of CHHA National’s “Get In The Hearing Loop” (GITHL) Campaign, this webinar will take a deeper dive into the issue and needs of our Hard of Hearing consumers, identify technology solutions for public spaces and provide updates our “GITHL Campaign”… our new partners and the progress on some new exciting loop installations.
Dr. Juliëtte Sterkens is an audiologist with over 40 years of experience. She retired from private audiology practice to become the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Professional Hearing Loop Advisor. Many simply know her as the national hearing loop advocate. Dr. Sterkens, who has lectured around the country and Europe, is known for her practical and easy to follow lectures. Her efforts have led to over 850 hearing loop installations in Wisconsin and many more beyond. For her work she has been recognized by several awards, including the Wisconsin Audiologist of the Year and her Alma Mater UW-Oshkosh Distinguished Alumna award. In this webinar, she will share her enthusiasm for hearing loops with CHHA members.
